Always the Right Time to Protect Human Lives
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, December 13, 2016 (Cincinnati, OH) – Ohio House Bill 493 child abuse reporting law with Ohio’s Unborn Heartbeat Protection bill included as an amendment has reached Governor Kasich’s desk. The Governor has 10 days to sign, veto the entire bill or line item veto, or do nothing and let the bill become law on its own.
Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati leadership has sent a letter urging Governor Kasich to sign Ohio’s human heartbeat protection measure. The text of the letter reads:
Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati has supported Ohio’s human heartbeat protection strategy since efforts began in 2011. In the years since, these efforts have educated many on the true nature of abortion’s toll on women, men and their unborn children.
According to the most recent Ohio Department of Health Induced Abortions in Ohio report, over 20,000 babies die from abortion in Ohio every year. Ohio’s Heartbeat law will protect 90% of these unborn babies by prohibiting abortion of those with a detectable heartbeat, as early as six weeks gestation.
Establishing human heartbeat protections in Ohio is an historic opportunity for those committed to the cause of life. The baby has a heartbeat–the baby may not be aborted! Not in Ohio! And when Ohio makes this bold stand, other states are poised to follow.
Please, as Ohio’s leading elected official, support your colleagues who recently passed these protections in the legislature, and courageously stand for Life with your own support of human heartbeat protections. Many eminent attorneys are in agreement (see attached). We know Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel recently made the offer to you to defend the law pro bono, should it receive a legal challenge.
Now is the time to take a stand. Now is the time to be a leader for Life, even when other courses of action might seem more politically expedient. We look forward to your signature on this landmark legislation.
