United States Congress, 1st District - Steve Driehaus (D)

The 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton, did more than just "legalize" abortion on demand; they prohibited virtually any federal, state or local laws from protecting pre-born children from death by abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy.

  1. Do you support reversal of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton?

    Yes

  2. Do you support federal legislation to ban abortion-on-demand from fertilization to birth?

    Yes, with exceptions
If Roe v. Wade is overturned, I believe the constitutional responsibility as to the legality will fall to the states. I support an abortion ban, and would vote that way as a state legislator. I would provide an exception for the life of the mother.

  3. Do you support legislation prohibiting use of tax money for organizations that promote or perform abortions domestically and in foreign countries?

    Yes
    Specific to abortion practices.

  4. Do you support legislation prohibiting the killing of human embryos by extracting their stem cells for scientific research?

It is my hope that the rapid advances in science will bring us to a point where the destruction of human embryos will no longer be a consideration.

  5. Do you support legislation prohibiting all cloning of human beings?

    Yes

  6. Do you support legislation prohibiting assisted suicide?

    Yes

  7. Will you oppose any legislation or regulation (e.g., campaign finance reform) that has the purpose or effect of restricting, penalizing, chilling, discouraging or prohibiting citizens from contacting their elected representatives or urging others to do so on issues of importance to them?

    Yes
I would oppose legislation limiting voter contact with elected officials. I believe, however, that serious campaign finance reform is necessary to reduce the absurd amounts of money raised to run campaigns and the influence such funds have on public policy.

  8. List all the organizations to which you have contributed time or money in the past four years.

My wife and I have contributed time and resources to many causes in the past four years including: Pregnancy Care of Cincinnati, Vitas Hospice Charitable Fund, St. Teresa of Avila, Elder High School, Seton High School, Xavier University, United Way, Catholic Relief Services, Santa Maria Community Services, Women's Connection, Girl Scouts, Price Hill Will, Bethany House, Hurricane Katrina Relief, Archbishop's Annual Fund, Our Daily Bread, Special Olympics, Literacy Center West, American Heart Association, Tender Mercies, Sons of the American Legion, Ohio River Way, Greater Cincinnati Police Athletic Association.
