A Brutal Truth: Ohio’s 2024 Abortion Statistics Released

On October 1, 2025, the  Ohio Department of Health released the official 2024 abortion statistics, and the reality is devastating. These numbers reveal a tragic amount of the destruction of innocent human lives, and we at Cincinnati Right to Life share the report while we continue a deeper analysis.

The Numbers in Hamilton County

In Hamilton County alone, 4,161 pre-born children lost their lives to abortion in 2024. This is 500 more than in 2023, and overall, 1,000 more tiny human beings that were killed in the county compared to 2022.

Hamilton County now ranks third in Ohio for abortions, following Cuyahoga County (6,172) and Franklin County (4,260).

A Disproportionate Impact on Black Lives

Perhaps one of the most heartbreaking realities is that in Cincinnati, three out of four abortions are the  deaths of Black babies  in the womb. Statistically, 73% of abortions in Hamilton County were performed on minority babies.

It is an outrage that in the very county where Harriet Beecher Stowe was  inspired to write Uncle Tom’s Cabin —a book that helped awaken a nation’s conscience to the evils of slavery—we now face a modern-day genocide of Black lives through abortion.

Young Mothers and the Silent Epidemic of Pills

The statistics further reveal that 153 mothers in Hamilton County age 18 and under ended the lives of their children in 2024.

Statewide, there were 21,829 abortions in Ohio in 2024. Of these, at least 10,155 were non-surgical abortions (abortion pills). This number is tragically incomplete, since many women now order abortion pills online, bypassing medical oversight entirely. This silent epidemic is spreading rapidly, often without any accountability or reporting.

We strongly urge caution but honesty: videos such as those from  Choice42 demonstrate how these chemical abortions occur.  The truth is difficult to watch, but it cannot be ignored.

Out-of-State Abortions Rising

Since the overturn of Roe in 2022 and the abortion bans enacted in surrounding states, Ohio has seen a 143% increase in out-of-state abortions. Women are traveling into Ohio to end the lives of their children because this state has tragically become one of the remaining abortion destinations in the region. We in Cincinnati are experiencing this “tourism” at a greater level with our most southen location in the state.

Even more devastating: according to the ODH, less than 0.5% of abortions in Ohio were for “medical necessity.” The other 99.6% were elective abortions—ending lives for reasons of convenience.

Where We Stand

Abortion is not simply a statistic. Each number represents a unique and irreplaceable child, made in the image of God, who will never have the chance to live, love, or contribute to our community.

As these numbers confirm the depth of the crisis, Cincinnati Right to Life remains steadfast in fighting for the unborn and supporting mothers in crisis.

We will continue to analyze the data and share insights with you, our faithful community, as we work together to build a culture that values every life.

Why We Moved Our Offices

This is exactly why, in March of this year, Cincinnati Right to Life moved our offices to less than two blocks away from where these pre-born lives are taken daily under the lie of “healthcare.” This proximity allows our sidewalk advocates to be mobilized quickly and professionally. It also serves as a visible sign to the community that we will never abandon our mission to preserve and defend the sanctity of life—one mother and one baby at a time.

Already, our team has witnessed hundreds of turn-aways and countless known lives saved because of our faithful presence on the sidewalks. While we continue to travel to Washington, D.C., advocating to prevent taxpayer dollars from being funneled into this killing business, and to Columbus, working for pro-life laws even under the tragic new constitutional protections for abortion, our work in Cincinnati remains urgent and unrelenting.

Cincinnati has tragically become a travel destination for abortion, where tiny humans are vacuumed from their mothers’ wombs, discarded in plastic tubes, and labeled “medical waste.” As the southernmost on-demand abortion hub in Ohio, this reality has directly fueled the increase in lives lost here.

We are resolved to shine light into this darkness until the day comes when every life is protected, cherished, and welcomed.
