The agency will screen for more than 1,400 emerging contaminants as attention grows around a recent preprint reporting anti-progesterone activity in drinking water samples from three U.S. cities. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Sept. 9 that it will screen drinking water samples for more than 1,400 potential contaminants, including the two drugs commonly used in a chemical abortion. The announcement came less than two months after a preprint study reported anti-progesterone activity in water samples from three U.S. cities. “We have heard loud and clear that Americans are concerned about potential unknown pollutants lurking in their drinking water. The Trump EPA is committed to getting to the bottom of this, so that Americans can feel confident about the safety of their drinking water,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a press release. “EPA’s state-of-the-art study will shed light on this issue and complement the actions we are already taking under the Safe Drinking Water Act.” EPA scientists will use non-targeted analysis, a method that allows researchers to screen water samples for thousands of potential pollutants rather than testing for only a small group of predetermined chemicals, the agency said in the release. The study will collect samples from several locations in different metropolitan areas. The EPA’s screening library contains mifepristone and misoprostol — the drugs commonly used together in a chemical abortion — among more than 1,400 chemicals, including certain contraceptives and hormones that can also be used in gender “transition” treatments, according to a chemical list released by the agency. The list includes more than 1,000 pesticides and pesticide metabolites, more than 250 pharmaceuticals and personal care products, more than 70 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances — commonly known as PFAS — and other emerging contaminants. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he had unsuccessfully pushed the EPA for decades to conduct such comprehensive testing of drinking water. “Thanks to Administrator Zeldin’s courage and President Trump’s bold MAHA agenda, we are finally getting it done,” Kennedy said in the release. “EPA is going to search for pharmaceuticals, PFAS, and other contaminants that have gone undetected — and give Americans the truth about what is in their water.” Students for Life of America (SFLA), which had urged the EPA to test drinking water for mifepristone, welcomed the study as a “victory for common sense.” “News that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has listened to the voices of thousands of Americans worried about the levels of fertility-crushing pharmaceuticals in the water is a victory for common sense. You don’t have to be pro-life to want crystal-clear drinking water,” SFLA President Kristan Hawkins said in a Sept. 11 statement. She argued that the harms of chemical abortion drugs could extend beyond mothers and unborn children, raising concerns that endocrine-disrupting compounds in drinking water could also affect women trying to conceive and endangered species. “While we are still working for mandated, ongoing testing, this scientific study is an exciting first step,” Hawkins said. In a preprint study published July 20, researchers reported detecting anti-progesterone activity in water samples collected in Austin, Texas; Blacksburg, Virginia; and Carbondale, Illinois, as Zeale News previously reported . The researchers expressed the detected activity as “mifepristone equivalents.” Researchers said at the time that additional testing would be necessary to confirm the source of the activity and assess its potential health effects. Study co-author Elise Rose warned that the findings suggested Americans are “possibly being exposed to an endocrine-disrupting compound without our consent.” Elise Winland is a political writer for Zeale.

Ohioans, we need to pay attention! A bill has been introduced in Ohio that would legalize Doctor Prescribed Suicide. HB 835, the Medical Aid in Dying Act , is being promoted as compassionate and as a matter of patient choice. Groups like Compassion & Choices and Ohio End of Life Options are pushing for this policy. But let’s be honest about what we’re talking about. Doctor Prescribed Suicide is not palliative care. Palliative care means caring for someone who is suffering. It means treating their pain, keeping them comfortable, supporting their family, and making sure they know they are not alone. Doctors are supposed to heal and care for their patients, not prescribe medication with the intent of ending their lives. We should be offering people hope, care, comfort, and support when they are at their most vulnerable. We should never send the message that someone’s life has become too difficult, too expensive, or too burdensome to continue. This is especially important for the elderly, people with disabilities, and those facing serious or terminal illness. Every human life has dignity and value, even when that life is marked by suffering. We need to speak up now! Our enemies have been emboldened by their recent victories, and we must not be caught flat footed once again. Please contact your Ohio state representative and senator and tell them to OPPOSE HB 835. You can simply tell them: “I oppose HB 835 and Doctor Prescribed Suicide in Ohio. Please protect vulnerable Ohioans and reject this legislation.” Please share this with your family, friends, church, and pro-life community. Ohio should respond to suffering with compassion and care—not suicide. Stand for life!

As usual, Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio is disregarding the health and safety of women in its pursuit of expanding abortion. Rather than following the same licensing process required of every other medical facility in Ohio, the organization is seeking special treatment by attempting to rush its application through the Ohio Department of Health. Former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, now leading Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio, has filed a lawsuit in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court before Judge Alison Hathaway seeking to compel the Ohio Department of Health to approve the licensing application for the Kettering abortion facility that Planned Parenthood purchased from abortionist Martin Haskell last year. Planned Parenthood claims it is being unfairly targeted by the state. Judge Hathaway has proven herself to be a sympathetic ear to the whining of Planned Parenthood. The reality is that Ohio's licensing process exists to protect patients by ensuring that all healthcare facilities meet established health and safety standards. Planned Parenthood should not be exempt from those requirements simply because it is the nation's largest abortion provider. Instead of allowing the process to run its course, Whaley is demanding expedited treatment so the facility can begin performing abortions and generating revenue as quickly as possible. Ohio's health and safety regulations should apply equally to every medical facility. Women deserve the same protections regardless of where they receive care, and no abortion provider should receive preferential treatment at the expense of patient safety.

The bills which await a vote in the Ohio Senate before receiving the governor's signature are: The Baby Olivia Act (House Bill 485) which would simply assure public schools show a 3 minute, age appropriate video on fetal development in grades 5-12. Common Sense. Patient Protection Act (House Bill 324) requires an 'in person' evaluation before any drug with at least a 5% chance of causing severe adverse effects, including death, sepsis, organ failure, or hospitalization due to infection or hemorrhage can be dispensed. The bill also requires a follow up evaluation to ensure the patient's safety and identify any warning signs of complications. Common Sense. She Wins Act (House Bill 347) seeks to apply to the abortion procedure, the same informed consent protocols applied to any other common medical procedure. Regardless of an individuals’ position on abortion, the bill is predicated on the fact patients deserve complete and accurate information before making a medical decision. Common Sense The reasons why these bills, were not referred to the full Senate for a vote before the Senate summer recess has not been explained. While we wait for an explanation, pro-life supporters should call their Ohio Senator and ask why the Ohio Senate decided to go on a summer 'vacation' before voting to Make Sense Common Again .
